Education
Florida Public Broadcasting Service is a public service media and as such our primary goal is to entertain, enlighten, enrich and educate Floridians. Below are some of the programs we create, support or work with.
FPBS Supports Education in Florida
- Florida Knowledge Network
- The Florida Knowledge Network (FKN) is an instructional television service that brings educational programming into the 83,000 classrooms throughout Florida's school systems.
- PBS Kids
- PBS Kids programming builds a foundation that helps children learn to read, count, recognize colors and develop an inquisitive nature to explore the world around them.
- PBS School Readiness Initiative
- PBS Ready to Learn holds live workshops for educators and all Florida families with a special focus on at risk and low income families with fewer resources. It provides free books to Florida's neediest pre-K and Kindergarten students, more than 300,000 books distributed to Florida's children to date. Florida members stations work to provide resources and training to first time parents and professional training to educators and caregivers.
- PBS Parents
- PBS Parents provides information on child development along with educational activities which help children get ready for school. The program also provides information on social and emotional development and school readiness.
- PBS Teachers
- PBS Teachers provides preK-12 educators with high-quality teaching resources and one of the most accessed sites by educators in the country. The site provides classroom materials, lesson plans, teaching activities, video resources, teachers' guides, homeschooling guidance, interactive games and more. These resources meet state and national educational standards and are tied to PBS' award-winning programming like NOVA, Nature and others.
